On Wednesday, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani officially opened the Shorsh-Hetit Public Hospital in Deraluk, Duhok Governorate — a major step forward for local healthcare.
This brand-new, four-storey hospital cost about $43 million (around 56 billion dinars) to build and covers an area of 43,000 square meters. It’s built to serve the people — and it’s big enough to make a real difference, with 100 beds ready for patients.
Inside, the hospital is packed with modern medical services. It includes emergency and primary care units, six operating rooms for both major and minor surgeries, and specialized areas for dialysis, mammography, and ultrasound. There’s also a fully equipped lab, obstetrics and newborn care, intensive care units, and treatment for special medical conditions.
On top of that, the hospital offers microscopy, laparoscopy, and natural therapy — giving patients access to advanced care close to home.
This new facility will serve more than 250,000 people living in Deraluk and nearby areas, reducing the need for long travel to other cities for medical help.
According to the KRG, this is part of a larger effort to upgrade healthcare across the region. So far, the government’s Ninth Cabinet has renovated 67 hospitals and 31 specialized centers, and has built eight new hospitals — including facilities focused on rehabilitation and cancer treatment.
This opening marks another strong step toward improving the quality of healthcare and making sure every community has access to modern, reliable medical services.
