Zainab Al-Mousawi, a member of the parliamentary committee for Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources, declared on Wednesday that Jordan maintains its consistently hostile stance towards Iraq, particularly about the official Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Al-Mousawi has issued a statement urging the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, to stop providing free crude oil and halt oil exports to Jordan. She believes that Jordan is undeserving of any assistance from Iraq, especially given the serious accusations and harsh criticism it has made against Iraq, including attacks on Iraqi state institutions and the PMF.
Al-Mousawi emphasized that her demand represents a “broad popular call,” noting that Iraq continues to supply oil to Jordan almost free of charge, supporting their government with Iraqi funds without justifiable cause.
She explained that Iraq supplies Jordan with 10,000 barrels of oil per day via trucks, meeting 7% of the country’s energy needs at a $16 discount per barrel compared to global market prices.
Al-Mousawi noted that Jordan consistently displays hostility and gloating towards hardships faced by Iraqis, often ridiculing their problems.
Activists shared videos of Jordanian citizens criticizing Gaza supporters at the Iraq-Jordan border. They also threatened to engage in combat with the Popular Mobilization Forces.
In its latest official report, the Iraqi State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) stated that the average selling price of exported crude oil to Jordan was $75.5 per barrel last month.
It is essential to highlight that there has been an increase in Iraqi oil exports to Jordan, which currently stands at around 15,000 barrels per day. This has been made possible through a revised agreement that has replaced the previous one, which stated the sale of only 10,000 barrels per day to Amman at a price of almost $16 lower than the global market rate.
