Abdul Latif Rashid, the president of Iraq, emphasized on Monday the necessity of coming to a resolution with Turkey in order to address the water issue.
According to a statement released by the Iraqi Presidency, Rashid made these comments at a meeting with Ibrahim Kalin, the head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency, and his entourage.
According to the president of Iraq, the country’s population is growing and so is its need for water.
The two parties discussed ways to improve Iraq-Turkey bilateral relations, and Rashid emphasized the need of coordinating security measures, especially in the battle against terrorism.
The president of Iraq underlined the need of starting a conversation to settle unresolved differences between Turkey and Iraq because both nations have abundant natural and human resources that should be used to attain full growth and prosperity.
Kalin stated that joint committees are in charge of settling this issue and that Turkey is eager for Iraq to have its due share of water.
