Chinese companies buy largest share of Iraqi oil

Numerous Chinese oil corporations purchased Iraqi oil in December 2023, according to a Monday announcement from the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO).

According to SOMO’s data, in December 2023, 44 oil companies—12 of which were Chinese—purchased oil from Iraq.

Seven Indian oil companies bought Iraqi crude oil in December, according to the statistics, making them the second-largest collection of importers from a single nation behind China.

Based on the available data, South Korea emerged as the third largest importer of Iraqi crude oil, after Turkey, where three oil firms also bought Iraqi oil, with four South Korean oil corporations importing oil from Iraq in a single month.

Last December, Iraqi oil was imported by two oil corporations each from the US, Italy, Japan, the UAE, and Greece and one each from Spain, the Netherlands, Britain, Jordan, Kuwait, Russia, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, and France.

According to Iraq’s oil marketing business, Nayara Energy, Exxon Mobil, Shell, and Eni are among the most well-known oil corporations that have purchased Iraqi oil.
