Iraq discusses Economic Reforms and Development with World Bank

Iraq’s Minister of Finance, Taif Sami Mohammed, held discussions with a World Bank delegation on advancing economic reforms and expanding support for development projects across the country.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to back the government’s reform program and accelerate the implementation of major development initiatives nationwide.

Key areas of discussion included improving the investment climate through the simplification of financial and banking procedures, as well as enhancing partnerships with international institutions to support sustainable development goals.

The talks also addressed activating the role of the private sector by providing technical and financial support, creating job opportunities, and modernizing infrastructure to meet growing economic demands.

Participants highlighted the importance of increasing non-oil revenues through the automation of tax and customs systems, in addition to strengthening public treasury resources and ensuring long-term financial stability.

Minister Mohammed stressed that empowering the private sector remains a strategic priority for the government, noting ongoing efforts to stimulate productive and industrial sectors in order to reduce dependence on imports.

The meeting further explored structural reforms aimed at diversifying national income sources, improving transparency, and enhancing financial efficiency as part of Iraq’s broader economic transformation agenda.
