Yasser Al-Hasani, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, noted that “amending the law grants the Iraqi individual the freedom to choose rulings according to his beliefs and sects” today, Sunday. Al-Hasani emphasized how crucial it is to proceed with amending the Personal Status Law.
“The current Personal Status Law has caused divorce cases and the disintegration of the Iraqi family, noting that every hour the Iraqi courts witness 10 divorce cases,” Al-Hussaini stated in an interview.
“The current personal status law does not take into account the humanitarian or legal aspect,” he added.
“Working with double effort to pass the amendment based on the belief in the necessity of protecting the Iraqi family and strengthening the rights of children,” he emphasized.
