Ghaleb Mohammed, a former member of parliament, stated that the Barzani family, in particular, receives the profits from the smuggled oil produced in the Kurdistan Region.
Mohammed told , “The Government Service of Money didn’t get the incomes from this oil, which goes into the pockets of the Barzani family.”
“The Kurdistan region produces about 300 thousand barrels of oil per day,” he said, “and part of it is sold within the region to official and unofficial refineries, noting that it is sold at exorbitant prices in a way that differs from the rest of the Iraqi governorates.” He added that the Kurdistan region sells some of the oil to official and unofficial refineries.
He continued, “In addition to a portion of the oil production in Kurdistan that is smuggled (Qajq) to countries neighboring the region through border crossings, the regional government receives a large import of petroleum derivatives sold at gas stations.”
He said, “What is being carried from Kurdistan towards the nations adjoining the locale adds up to around 130-180 thousand barrels.”
