MP: Foreign interference in personal status law is unacceptable

Hussein Al-Saabari, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, contemplated foreign interference in the legislative authority’s work on Saturday, specifically the modification of Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959 as inadmissible.

According to Al-Saabari, foreign embassies are interfering with the legislative authority’s work, indicating that the law has become a national and legal challenge.

“The House of Representatives rejects foreign interference emanating from some embassies,” he went on to say.

He noted that the House of Representatives is not impacted by foreign agendas or embassies, but he confirmed that there were attempts to obstruct the law’s amendment.
