A six-year prison sentence was handed down to an accountant working at the Shalamcheh border crossing.

Iraq’s Anti-Corruption Criminal Court has sentenced an accountant working at the Shalamcheh border crossing to six years in prison for financial corruption.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Supreme Judicial Council said the employee was convicted of embezzling money from the border crossing’s revenue account.

According to the court, the accountant deducted fees and deposits collected at the crossing, deposited part of the money into a bank, and kept the remaining amount for personal use in violation of the law.

The ruling was issued under Article 315 of Iraq’s Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, which covers embezzlement of public funds.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by judicial authorities to combat corruption and protect state revenues, particularly at border crossings and revenue-generating facilities.
