MP Mona al-Obeidi on Saturday criticized the continued delay in finalizing the formation of parliamentary committees within Iraq’s House of Representatives, warning that the situation could have serious consequences for the council’s work.

Al-Obeidi told dinaropinions.com that the delay is negatively affecting parliament’s ability to perform its legislative and oversight duties, stressing that prolonged obstruction undermines the effectiveness of the institution.

“The delay in completing the parliamentary committees weakens the legislative and supervisory role of the House of Representatives,” she said. “This situation limits parliament’s capacity to follow up on important laws and key files.”

She added that the coming phase requires swift action to finalize committee formations, noting that effective committees are essential to ensuring smooth legislative processes and timely passage of laws.

Al-Obeidi emphasized that parliamentary committees are the backbone of the council’s work, explaining that any delay in forming them directly impacts productivity and oversight.

“This requires the House of Representatives to accelerate the completion of the committees to guarantee the proper exercise of its legislative and oversight responsibilities,” she said.
