Iraqi Govt to Phase Out Cash Payments

New steps have been taken to create electronic payment systems, according to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

The Ministry of Labor and the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) collaborated on the framework for the initiative, which includes expanding salary payments to employees working in the private sector through digital channels, similar to how government payroll works.

In addition, all ministries and government agencies must implement electronic collections and transaction systems and phase out cash payments. By December 31, 2024, each institution must submit a detailed plan, with full implementation scheduled for July 1, 2025.
