Iraq inaugurates wastewater treatment plant in Babil

Babil — In a major step toward resolving Babil’s long-standing water shortages, Governor Adnan al-Dulaimi inaugurated a wastewater treatment plant on Monday with a capacity of 500 cubic meters per hour.

Al-Dulaimi said in a statement that the project marks an important milestone in addressing the water crisis in northern Babil, especially in villages and rural areas that have long suffered from unstable water supplies.

The governor explained that the facility — which will serve more than 15,000 residents — was completed two months ahead of schedule and meets the highest technical and engineering standards.

According to al-Dulaimi, the project’s early completion reflects the government’s growing focus on accelerating essential service projects that have a direct impact on citizens’ daily lives.

He added that the operation of the new plant will help reduce migration from rural communities that, in past years, have been forced to relocate due to water scarcity.

The governor also confirmed that similar projects are currently underway across other areas of Babil as part of a broader development plan aimed at improving the province’s water infrastructure and basic services.
