The Barzani government grants salaries to 10 Kurds in Syria.

Saman Ali, a leader in the National Position Movement, has alleged that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), led by Masoud Barzani, is redirecting large amounts of money—originally intended for regional employees’ salaries—to pay more than 10,000 Kurds in Syria.

Ali told dinaropinions.com that “Barzani’s government is stealing the salaries of its own employees and transferring them to more than 10,000 Syrians who were granted Iraqi passports years ago to support his party during elections.”

He further claimed that “the KRG is carrying out Barzani’s political and military plans inside Syria without coordination or approval from the federal government in Baghdad.”

According to Ali, this alleged redirection of funds is the main reason behind ongoing salary delays in the Kurdistan Region, which have triggered growing frustration among public sector employees.

He explained that “the salaries allocated to a Kurdish force operating inside Syria are meant to serve Barzani’s personal and party interests,” adding that KRG departments have “issued Iraqi passports to over 11,000 Syrians, including some reportedly wanted by Iraqi courts on terrorism charges.”

These accusations add to the mounting criticism of the KRG’s financial management and its strained relationship with Baghdad, particularly over salary payments, oil revenue sharing, and transparency in government spending.
