$86m Water and Infrastructure Projects in Diwaniyah

Al-Diwaniyah, Iraq – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Saturday laid the foundation stones for three integrated water and infrastructure projects in the districts of Al-Shafiya, Nafar, and Al-Salahiya in Al-Diwaniyah province.

The projects, which cover wastewater systems, stormwater drainage, transmission lines, and pumping and treatment stations, represent a total investment of approximately 114 billion Iraqi dinars (around USD 86 million).

During the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized that these initiatives form a core part of the government’s service and development programme, noting that public service indicators have significantly improved in recent months due to the completion of various projects across multiple provinces.

According to the government, the new projects will include more than 207 kilometres of transmission pipelines and provide a total treatment capacity of 17,500 cubic metres per day, benefiting an estimated 250,000 residents in Al-Diwaniyah.

Al-Sudani reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development, service delivery, and local economic growth, describing the projects as essential for supporting Iraq’s broader modernization and urban development goals.
