Iraq has taken the top spot among Arab countries in barley production for the 2024–2025 season, according to new data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The country held onto its lead as the region’s biggest producer of this important crop, which is a key part of food security.

The numbers show that Iraq produced 1.4 million tons of barley, putting it well ahead of its neighbors. Algeria and Syria came next, each with about 1.2 million tons.

Further down the list, Morocco produced 660,000 tons, and Tunisia recorded 272,000 tons, confirming their steady roles in regional grain markets.

Libya reached 100,000 tons, while Egypt produced 90,000 tons. Yemen and Lebanon followed with 30,000 tons each, and Jordan came in last with 25,000 tons.

The big differences in production across the region come from factors like climate, water resources, and farming policies. But despite these challenges, Iraq continues to lead the Arab world in barley production this season.
