Parliamentary move to cancel hospital contracts awarded to al-Khanjar in Babylon

Babil MP Hamza al-Khafaji said on Thursday that Parliament is moving to cancel hospital contracts in the province that were awarded to Sarmad Khamis al-Khanjar. He said the goal is clear: stop corruption and make sure the health sector is managed in a transparent way.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Khafaji said the contracts approved in recent years are surrounded by serious corruption concerns. He explained that Parliament plans to review these deals and cancel them if needed to protect public money and rebuild trust in health institutions.

He added that the next phase will include strict oversight of health investment projects in Babil. According to al-Khafaji, this move reflects public demands to put an end to corruption and ensure fairness in medical services.

Earlier, Hussein Ali al-Karawi, head of the organizing committee of the popular movement, accused the government of granting Khamis al-Khanjar and his son Sarmad large investment projects in Babil. These reportedly include operating contracts for major facilities, such as the Turkish Hospital.

The issue is now drawing wider attention as lawmakers push for accountability in the province’s health sector.
