Planning Ministry announces decline in annual inflation; food prices fall.

Iraq’s Ministry of Planning announced on Saturday that the country’s annual inflation rate declined by 1.2% in December 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, reflecting easing price pressures across key sectors of the economy.

In a press statement received by dinaropinions.com, ministry spokesperson Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi said inflation remained unchanged on a monthly basis, with December prices holding steady compared to November.

“The inflation rate in December 2025 remained stable, with no increase or decrease compared to the preceding month,” al-Hindawi said.

He added that food prices fell by 0.7% during December on an annual basis, describing the decline as a positive indicator for basic consumer goods and household spending.

The ministry also reported a 0.4% decrease in core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, suggesting broader price stability across the economy.

According to the data, seven sectors recorded slight price increases, while three sectors saw price declines, and two sectors maintained the same price levels recorded in November.

The Ministry of Planning said the figures indicate improving price stability and easing inflationary pressures as Iraq enters 2026, particularly in essential goods and services.
