Review of Operational Plan for Development Road Project

Baghdad – Officials reviewed the operational plan for Iraq’s strategic Development Road project, alongside updates on engineering designs and economic feasibility, during a high-level meeting held at the headquarters of the Iraqi Republic Railways Company.

The meeting brought together representatives from Oliver Wyman, the project’s financial advisory firm, and BTP, the Italian engineering consultancy responsible for design work.

Discussions focused on several key areas, including the project’s operational framework, future performance prospects, and the alignment between projected costs, economic returns, and the project’s strategic importance to Iraq.

Participants also reviewed progress milestones, confirming that railway design work has reached 88% completion, while road design work stands at 76%, reflecting significant advancement toward final implementation stages.

The Development Road project aims to transform Iraq into a regional transportation and logistics hub, linking the Al-Faw Grand Port to regional and international markets through an integrated rail and road network. The project is expected to support economic diversification, trade expansion, and long-term investment growth across the country.
