Member of Parliament Zainab Waheed al-Khazraji accused the Ministry of Electricity on Monday of unfairly cutting power to some areas, saying Dhi Qar Governorate has become the “biggest victim.”
She said Dhi Qar is clearly receiving fewer hours of electricity compared to other governorates. According to her, this has made life even harder for people, especially with the extreme weather conditions.
Al-Khazraji called on the Ministry to stop what she described as a policy of marginalization. She said Dhi Qar deserves its full and fair share of electricity, just like any other governorate. She also made it clear that staying silent is no longer an option and that they will not accept Dhi Qar being treated as a low priority.
Dhi Qar has been facing a serious electricity crisis since the start of this year. More than 20 key electricity projects have reportedly been suspended for unknown reasons. Some of these projects were already 60 to 65 percent complete, making the situation even more frustrating for residents.
