The spokesman for the Victory Coalition, Aqeel al-Rudaini, said Tuesday that all decisions inside the Coordination Framework are made through full agreement between its members.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, he explained that the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki came through this consensus process, even though some political groups have objected.
Al-Rudaini said the Coordination Framework is the largest bloc in parliament and gives political and legal backing to the work of the Council of Representatives of Iraq. However, he stressed that it is not a constitutional institution on its own.
He pointed out that many Sunni and Kurdish parties — along with some major Shiite forces — have reservations about al-Maliki becoming prime minister again. In fact, he said most Sunni and Kurdish groups, and even some within the Shiite political camp, do not support forming a government led by al-Maliki.
Still, Al-Rudaini said al-Maliki is not stubbornly holding onto the nomination. Instead, he is looking for a legal and legitimate way out of the crisis — one that protects political stability in the country.
On the international side, Al-Rudaini said the United States acts based on its own interests in Iraq. He described current US policy as focused on maintaining global influence and control.
He urged leaders within the Coordination Framework to take responsibility and quickly hold a decisive session to settle the issue. He warned that if the political deadlock continues, Iraq could face serious consequences — including possible US sanctions or even military action.
