Germany Assists with Roadmap for Iraq's Economic Transformation

Iraq’s Ministry of Planning held a steering committee meeting for the Supporting Economic Transformation (SET) project, in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), to review progress achieved in 2025 and approve a roadmap for 2026.

According to a ministry statement, the meeting evaluated key accomplishments over the past year and finalized joint planning for 2026, with a focus on aligning the project’s objectives with the programs of development partners to ensure the sustainability of long-term economic transformation efforts.

The Director General of the Economic and Financial Policies Department at the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Sabah Jundi Mansour, said discussions centered on assessing last year’s results and defining priorities for the next phase of implementation.

Meanwhile, GIZ Country Director Dr. Axel Klabhake reviewed the main successes achieved in 2025, stressing the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships to deliver lasting institutional impact. He noted that the 2026 plan will feature increased partner contributions and clearer implementation timelines aimed at improving private sector efficiency.

The meeting also reviewed partner roles in upcoming activities, identified priorities and targets, and included an open discussion on mechanisms to support economic growth and address existing challenges. Representatives from several ministries and relevant institutions attended alongside GIZ officials.
