A fire that broke out at the Salah 2 refinery in Baiji on Monday evening has been fully contained, with operations returning to a stable state shortly afterward.
According to available details, the incident started at approximately 7:45 p.m. during routine compressor replacement work inside a compressor unit. Safety and firefighting teams responded immediately, bringing the blaze under control by 8:00 p.m., with all containment measures completed by 8:15 p.m.
The fire was confined to the affected unit and did not spread to other sections of the refinery.
However, the incident resulted in one refinery worker losing his life, while 13 others sustained injuries of varying severity. The injured were transferred for medical treatment.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the fire, as well as to assess compliance with safety procedures during maintenance operations.
The refinery’s management stated that emergency response protocols functioned effectively, limiting damage and allowing operations to stabilize within a short period.
