Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that all 117 Romanian soldiers who were stationed in Iraq have now returned home.
This move comes after a decision by NATO to reposition its forces in the country.
The soldiers were first moved to bases in Incirlik and Ramstein. From there, they were flown back to Romania on military aircraft. The operation was carried out in coordination with NATO allies and international partners.
The ministry said the decision was made بسبب rising security concerns in the region. Ongoing tensions — especially the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran — made it necessary to focus on the safety of troops.
During their time in Iraq, the Romanian soldiers, part of the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calogarini, were responsible for protecting NATO personnel and facilities. Officials said they completed their mission successfully.
Romania also made it clear that it still supports NATO operations and will continue to take part in international security efforts when needed.
