The Al-Waleed border crossing has reopened on a trial basis, allowing crude oil tankers to move again between Iraq and Syria.
Local officials say operations have already started, with the first group of tankers crossing the border. According to Mujahid Mardhi Al-Dulaimi, this marks the return of oil transport activity between the two countries after a long pause.
The scale is already significant. More than 150 tankers were reportedly waiting to enter Syria, and officials expect traffic to increase to at least 500 tankers per day.
The reopening was carried out with senior officials present, including Omar Mishaan Al-Dabbous and other local leaders, showing strong government support for the move.
In simple terms, this is about restarting trade and boosting economic ties. Officials believe reopening the crossing will help increase business activity and strengthen cooperation between Iraq and Syria.
If the trial run goes smoothly, this route could once again become a key channel for oil transport in the region.
