OPEC+ Agrees Production Adjustment for May

OPEC has announced that eight OPEC+ countries will adjust oil production by 206,000 barrels per day starting in May 2026. The goal is simple: keep the global oil market stable.

The decision came after a virtual meeting on April 5, where key producers like Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman all took part.

This move is part of a bigger plan. These countries had already agreed on earlier production adjustments in 2023, and this is one step in gradually managing supply. Depending on how the market behaves, they can increase, pause, or even reverse these changes.

They also stressed that flexibility is key. If conditions shift, they’re ready to respond quickly to avoid major price swings.

Another important point they raised was about overproduction. Some countries produced more than agreed in the past, and now they’re expected to make up for it by adjusting output moving forward.

The group also highlighted concerns about global energy security. They warned that attacks on energy infrastructure and disruptions to shipping routes can affect supply and push markets into instability.

At the same time, they praised countries that found alternative export routes to keep oil flowing and reduce pressure on the market.

Going forward, these eight countries will meet every month to keep a close eye on the situation. Their next meeting is scheduled for May 3, 2026.

In simple terms, this is a cautious move. They’re trying to balance supply and demand while staying ready to react to whatever happens next in the global oil market.
