Visa is stepping into the future of payments by building tools that let AI handle transactions for you.
The company has launched a new system called Intelligent Commerce Connect. In simple terms, it allows AI agents to browse, choose products, and even complete payments on behalf of users—all automatically.
Instead of needing multiple systems, everything runs through one connection. This includes:
- Starting a payment
- Securing it through tokenization
- Verifying the user
- Setting spending limits
Users can link their cards, set rules, and let AI handle the rest within those limits.
This new system is still being tested with selected partners, but a wider rollout is expected later this year.
Visa is also making sure the system works beyond just its own network. It supports both Visa and non-Visa payments and can connect with different AI platforms.
Interestingly, this move puts Visa in direct competition with blockchain networks like Ethereum, Solana, and Tron, which are also trying to power automated, machine-driven payments.
There’s already real-world use happening. Through a protocol called x402, AI agents can buy digital goods on their own—without any manual input from users.
So what does this mean in plain terms?
It’s a big step toward a world where AI doesn’t just suggest what to buy—it actually buys it for you, safely and within your control.
