A source in Sulaimaniyah said on Thursday that the Kor Mor gas field, east of the governorate, is now on full alert after being hit by several drones late Wednesday night.
The source told dinaropinions.com that elite security forces have been deployed heavily around the field after the attack. The drones caused fires in a number of tanks, but five civil defense teams were able to control most of the flames.
According to the source, authorities also opened safe routes to evacuate hundreds of workers, including foreign staff, and move them to secure areas. A high-level security committee has already arrived at the site to begin the first round of investigations. Their job is to assess the damage and make sure technical and engineering teams can safely enter the field to start repair work.
The source confirmed that the attack caused a drop in gas pressure, which affected gas supplies to several power stations. He added that it’s still too early to give final details, as the investigation is ongoing and no firm conclusions can be made yet.
