A new decision to restore basic services powers to the Baghdad Provincial Council

The head of the Baghdad Provincial Council, Ammar al-Hamdani, revealed on Saturday that several government departments will have their administrative powers reinstated under the authority of the council, including the electricity, education, and health sectors.

Al-Hamdani told the Information Agency that restoring these powers aims to strengthen the council’s oversight and supervisory role and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

He explained that the move comes as part of the broader push toward administrative decentralization and the activation of local government responsibilities.

According to al-Hamdani, the council will put in place clear mechanisms to monitor the performance of these departments and assess their work in line with current needs and challenges.

He added that the coming period will see an expanded role for the Provincial Council in managing and overseeing service-related issues across Baghdad.
