A parliamentary decision to deduct an amount of “one million dinars” from the representative’s salary for each day of absence

In its fifth session of the first legislative term, the third legislative year, and the fifth electoral cycle, the Iraqi House of Representatives voted today, Thursday, February 1, 2024, on the text of a parliamentary resolution that calls for taking one million dinars from the representative’s salary for each day of absence without official leave.

“Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohsen Al-Mandalawi asked the members of the House of Representatives to vote on a parliamentary decision that includes deducting an amount (one million dinars) from the representative’s salary for each day of absence without official leave,” the House of Representatives’ Media Department said in a statement.

“The House of Representatives voted on the decision’s text, and this decision will be implemented starting from the next session,” the speaker said.

The Iraqi Council of Representatives, led by Acting Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, convened its fifth session of the first parliamentary term of the third legislative year and its fifth election session earlier today.

According to a statement obtained by, the House of Representatives’ Media Department, Acting Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandalawi began the work of Session No. 5 of the first legislative term, the third legislative year, and the fifth electoral session without stating the number of representatives in attendance.

Four articles make up the agenda for the session, one of which is the first reading of the draft bill that would overturn Resolution No. 52 of 2003 of the disbanded Revolutionary Command Council.
