The head of the Iranian Interests Section in Egypt says Tehran and Cairo have decided to fully restore diplomatic ties.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Mojtaba Ferdowsi Pour said a final decision has been made to exchange ambassadors between Tehran and Cairo. He added that an official announcement will come soon.

Ferdowsi Pour described the relationship as entering an “advanced stage.” He said ties between the two countries are deeper and broader than many people realize, and stronger than Iran’s relations with several other nations.

If confirmed, this would mark a major turning point. Diplomatic relations between Egypt and Iran have been strained for decades, dating back to 1979.

Exchanging ambassadors would signal a clear step toward normalizing relations after years of political distance.
