MP Ali al-Bandawi: Kurdistan Finance Ministry to Blame for Salary Delays

Member of Parliament Ali al-Bandawi has blamed the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Finance for the ongoing delays in paying salaries to government employees. He also accused both the regional and federal governments of not being transparent about the salary process and failing to reveal the real number of employees in the region.

In an interview with dinaropinions.com, al-Bandawi said,

“The funds meant for the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region are still being sent by the federal government as financial advances to the regional government. But the region’s Ministry of Finance is holding back part of that money for political reasons, and that’s why salaries are not being paid regularly.”

He went on to say that the lack of transparency is a major issue.

“The regional government hasn’t given the federal authorities accurate data on the number of employees or their names. Because of that, their salaries can’t be properly added to Iraq’s electronic payment system, which is already in use in other provinces,” al-Bandawi explained.

The dispute over salary payments between Baghdad and Erbil has been a long-standing issue, often resurfacing as a political and administrative challenge. Al-Bandawi’s latest comments highlight how the standoff continues to affect thousands of employees who rely on timely wages to support their families.
