Former MP Mohammed al-Bayati said the Coordination Framework is standing firm on its choice for prime minister and has no plans to change its nominee.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Bayati said the Coordination Framework has the right to nominate whoever it believes is best suited to lead the country at this stage, and that it has already chosen Nouri al-Maliki for the position.
He added that the Framework is moving forward with this decision and that all signs point in the same direction. According to him, there has been no discussion inside the Framework about changing the nominee or replacing al-Maliki with another candidate.
Al-Bayati also made it clear that the Framework’s stance has not shifted despite outside pressure. He said the group remains committed to its choice even after US President Donald Trump publicly expressed opposition to al-Maliki returning to power.
