Baghdad — Azm Alliance member Abdullah Taha al-Dulaimi has alleged that Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of Iraq’s Progress Alliance, engaged in secret communications with Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the leader of Syria’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), to discuss undisclosed agreements ahead of an expected visit to Syria.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Dulaimi claimed that “al-Halbousi conducted intensive contacts with al-Julani prior to his arrival in Syria to establish positions and agreements, the details of which remain unclear.”
According to al-Dulaimi, the two allegedly met in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a meeting “held in complete secrecy,” which was reportedly attended by senior Emirati officials and a representative from the US embassy in Dubai.
He added that al-Halbousi had also held a phone call with al-Julani in recent days to coordinate a possible visit before the upcoming parliamentary elections, though the date had not been set for security reasons.
Al-Dulaimi went on to allege that “al-Halbousi supports the tendencies of al-Julani and his terrorist groups in managing Syria’s affairs,” and claimed that the UAE played a central role in facilitating communication between the two men “for ulterior motives.”
