Al Jubouri Mosul Dam’s reservoir is approaching 5 billion cubic meters for the first time in years

Former member of the agriculture and water committee, Thaer al-Jubouri, said on Friday that water levels in Mosul Dam are rising fast and are now getting close to five billion cubic meters for the first time in years.

He explained that this is a big improvement compared to the same time last year, when water levels were about 60% lower. In simple terms, the dam is now holding much more water than it did before, which is a very positive sign.

Al-Jubouri said this increase is especially important because the dam sits on the Tigris River, one of the main water sources for Iraq. More water in this reservoir means better support for farming, drinking water, and overall stability.

He added that Iraq’s water situation has improved quickly in just a few days. Heavy rain and flooding at the end of March brought in large amounts of water, helping refill key reservoirs across the country.

According to him, five to six major dams in the north, east, and west are now receiving strong water inflows. This shows that the rainfall has had a wide impact, not just in one area.

Al-Jubouri also said that the full picture will become clearer soon, especially after the latest wave of rain and floods over the past couple of days. These recent weather conditions are expected to push water levels even higher.

He stressed that Iraq really needed this rain. After long periods of low water levels, this sudden increase is helping recharge dams and even underground water reserves.

In short, the recent rains have given Iraq a much-needed boost, and for now, the country’s water situation is looking much better than it did before.
