Al-Kadhimi: Increasing non-oil revenues depends on eliminating unofficial border crossings.

Former member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mu’in al-Kadhim, said the government must seriously deal with unofficial border crossings and push the Kurdistan Regional Government to fully follow federal laws.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Kadhim said the government is moving forward with its decision to raise customs tariffs. He explained that this step will likely increase the prices of some goods and products, which could affect certain groups in society.

He added that the government needs a clear plan to boost non-oil revenues. This includes income from service fees, customs duties, taxes, telecommunications companies, and other oil-related institutions. According to him, these steps are necessary to help cover the expected budget shortfall this year.

Al-Kadhim also stressed the importance of fixing the issue of unofficial border crossings. He said the federal government must put pressure on the Kurdistan Region and its authorities to make sure they follow national regulations. He emphasized that all border crossings should be unified under one system and managed in a way that serves the country’s overall interest.
