Al-Kalabi criticizes the fragmentation of Kurdish parties and demands they decide on a presidential candidate.

Youssef al-Kalabi stated on Sunday that Kurdish political parties bear responsibility for obstructing national constitutional entitlements, calling on them to prioritize the public interest and resolve the ongoing presidential deadlock.

In remarks to dinaropinions.com, al-Kalabi emphasized that Kurdish factions must reach an agreement on a suitable presidential candidate to end the political paralysis affecting Iraq’s political process. He clarified that the Coordination Framework will not side with any particular Kurdish party in this matter.

Al-Kalabi further dismissed claims that internal disagreements within the Coordination Framework over the selection of a prime ministerial candidate are the primary cause behind the delay in electing a president. He stressed that such assertions are inaccurate and maintained that the main obstacle stems from divisions among Kurdish parties themselves.

According to al-Kalabi, raising the issue of alleged disagreements within the Coordination Framework is an attempt to reduce mounting pressure on Kurdish factions to settle their differences and move forward with the presidential vote.

Earlier, Wafa Mohammed, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, stated that the delay in electing a president was due to disputes within the coordinating body regarding the nomination of a prime minister. However, political observers viewed this claim as an effort to deflect attention from Kurdish parties’ inability to agree on a unified presidential candidate.

The continued disagreement has prolonged the constitutional process, delaying the completion of key political formations within Iraq’s government.
