Al-Maliki confirms Iraq’s keenness to activate the strategic framework agreement after the end of the international coalition’s role

Nouri al-Maliki, the chairman of the State of Law Coalition, met with Victoria Taylor, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Affairs, today, Wednesday, in the presence of US Ambassador to Iraq Elena Romanowski.

According to a statement published today by Al-Maliki’s office, the meeting included discussions of regional and international trends, as well as a variety of subjects and files of shared interest.

The chairman of the State of Law coalition emphasized the need of developing bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington, as well as methods to improve them in a way that benefits the two friendly peoples.

Regarding the ongoing dialogue between Iraq and the international coalition forces, Al-Maliki emphasized Iraq’s desire to activate the strategic framework agreement following the end of the international coalition’s role in Iraq and the transition to comprehensive relations in a variety of fields between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of ending the aggression against Gaza and opening safe humanitarian corridors.

Taylor, for her part, referred to the two countries’ cooperation relations and the desire to maintain them in a variety of areas, explaining that the United States is working to end military operations in Gaza as soon as possible and to pursue a political path that ensures Palestinians’ legitimate rights.
