Al-Sarraj: The presidency of Parliament is a crucial factor in the success of the next government.

Political analyst Ibrahim Al-Sarraj says the real difference between the next government and past ones will come down to one thing: who becomes the next Speaker of Parliament.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Al-Sarraj explained that the coordination framework now holds the strongest position in the political scene. He said the framework wants to form a strong government, backed by firm oversight and a stable presidency. This is happening while Sunni and Kurdish blocs are still divided and unable to agree on candidates for the Speaker of Parliament and the President of the Republic.

He added that because of these ongoing disagreements, the coordination framework has the advantage. With its majority, it can move forward with forming the government and choosing key leadership positions, especially if the Sunni and Kurdish sides remain split.

Al-Sarraj stressed that if the next Speaker of Parliament does not meet the coordination framework’s standards, the new government will look no different from previous ones. For real change, he said, Iraq needs a Speaker who can strengthen the government and actively support its work, not weaken it.
