Political analyst Majashaa al-Tamimi said on Saturday that the talk spreading on some media outlets and social media about choosing a compromise prime minister instead of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani or Nouri al-Maliki is not based on any official political decision so far.
Speaking to the Information Agency, al-Tamimi explained that these reports are mostly leaks and incomplete readings of the political situation. He said the real competition is still only between al-Sudani and al-Maliki, pointing to their strong political influence, organized backing, and ability to negotiate both inside Iraq and abroad.
He added that talk about a compromise candidate mainly shows that there is still no agreement within the Coordination Framework, not that there is an agreed or ready alternative name.
Al-Tamimi also said it is still possible that al-Sudani and al-Maliki could reach an understanding on a single candidate, whether it is one of them or another figure accepted within the same framework, in order to avoid political division.
