Al-Zawraa General Company, which operates under Iraq’s Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has signed a new contract to build and run a hybrid solar power system for the Arab Oil Training Institute.
The new project will generate 120 kilowatts of solar power and will be backed by lithium battery storage with a capacity of 122 kilowatt-hours. This setup will allow the institute to store energy and use it when needed, even when sunlight is limited.
The project is part of a broader push to expand renewable energy, cut down on traditional electricity use, and improve energy efficiency across government facilities.
According to the company’s Director General, Engineer Muhannad Jabbar al-Khazraji, this is actually the second hybrid solar station Al-Zawraa has built for the institute — and it’s the largest one so far.
He explained that the new system builds on the success of an earlier 113 kW solar station, which was installed previously and has shown strong and reliable performance since it began operating.
Al-Khazraji said the project fits directly with Iraq’s national goals to increase clean energy use, reduce pressure on the power grid, and support environmental sustainability. He also highlighted Al-Zawraa’s growing experience in delivering dependable solar solutions for training and educational institutions.
In short, this project is another step toward cleaner energy, smarter power use, and more reliable electricity for key public institutions.
