Baghdad approves Nahr Bin Omar gas field development project

The Iraqi cabinet approved a vital project that will aid in developing the country’s natural gas sector. The project involves the development of the Nahr Bin Omar oil and gas field.

An agreement has been reached between the South Gas Company, which is one of the companies under the Iraqi Oil Ministry, and the Halfaya Gas Company, a subsidiary of the Raban Al-Safina Group, one of Iraq’s top developers in the energy, oil, and gas industries.

As part of its efforts to attract investments and develop the natural gas sector, the government has made natural gas one of its top priorities.

The Nahr Bin Omar oil and gas field, located in the southern Iraqi governorate of Basra, holds significant strategic importance. It will facilitate the management of over 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, contributing to the fulfillment of energy demands and promoting environmental sustainability.

The project will reduce carbon emissions by over 8 million tons annually.

The Nahr Bin Omar field will have operating facilities to collect and compress associated gas, central gas processing facilities, connecting pipelines, and marine export facilities for global oil exports.
