The Russian business Gazprom was asked by the Iraqi government to develop the Nasiriyah oil field in southern Iraq, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister Office (PMO) on Wednesday.
The PMO stated that the development of the Nasiriyah oil field was the topic of the Iraqi cabinet’s meeting.
The announcement made it clear that inviting the Russian business to develop the oil field in southern Iraq was accepted by the Iraqi government.
Al-Sudani emphasized the collaboration between Russia and Iraq in the energy sector while taking part in the events of the Russian Energy Week Forum.
The prime minister of Iraq went on to explain that Russia’s innovations in the fields of gas, oil, and power will bring Iraq wealth. He also said that the naturally resource-rich region need economic cooperation in addition to a multi-regional framework that forges ahead.
The Nasiriyah oil field is thought to contain 586 million tons of oil reserves.
Gazprom Neft, the company’s oil division, is already producing oil in eastern Iraq and is now engaged in gas and oil projects in Iraqi Kurdistan.
