Iraq’s Water Resources Minister, Aoun Diyab Abdullah, met with Iran’s Energy Minister, Abbas Ali Abadi, in Tehran on Wednesday to talk about the growing drought problems both countries are facing.
In a statement, the Iraqi ministry said the two sides focused on the challenges linked to shared rivers and the waterways that cross their borders. These issues have become more serious as water levels drop and drought conditions worsen.
During the meeting, the Iranian side suggested bringing in specialized companies to help with joint projects. These projects would focus on things like desalination, reusing treated wastewater, and improving irrigation systems — all aimed at finding practical solutions to the region’s water crisis.
