The Iraqi federal government reiterated its commitment to promptly pay civil servants in the Kurdistan Region their salaries on Friday, announcing that wages for September 2024 will soon be distributed.
In a statement, Masoud Haider, the Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Finance, said that the government would continue to meet its financial obligations to all employees in Iraq, including those in the semi-autonomous region.
By the end of 2024, according to Haider, the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) would collaborate to settle any outstanding financial disputes.
Dilan Ghafour, the head of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, said on Wednesday that he was confident that the federal government would stick to its promise to pay public sector workers in the Kurdistan Region their salaries for September next week.
Following a meeting with Finance Minister Taif Sami, Ghafour made the following statement about the state of salary payments and the government’s financial plans. Ghafour assured employees in the region that their salary payments would not be impacted in any other way.
