BASRA — The State Company for Petrochemical Industries in Basra, affiliated with Iraq’s Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has unveiled a series of new and revived projects aimed at restarting production across its facilities and boosting the country’s industrial output.
Director General Mazen Abdul-Razzaq confirmed that the company is pressing ahead with the implementation of a partnership contract to establish a chlorine and caustic soda production plant within the Basra petrochemical complex.
He noted that a nitrogen and oxygen production project has also been awarded and is currently awaiting final approvals before the participation contract is signed. In parallel, negotiations are ongoing to finalize a draft partnership agreement for the establishment of a hydrochloric acid production plant.
Abdul-Razzaq added that preparations are underway for two major strategic projects — the development of a new petrochemical complex and the Al-Nibras (Nebras) Petrochemical Project. A preliminary agreement has already been signed with Ajial Company of Saudi Arabia to conduct feasibility studies for both projects within three months, paving the way for full implementation.
He also highlighted continued activity at the Basra Paper Factory, where projects for chlorine and caustic soda production are progressing alongside new ventures to manufacture notebooks, paper, and egg trays.
Similarly, at the Maysan Paper Factory, new production lines for chlorine, paper, cardboard, and egg trays have been launched.
Meanwhile, at the Baghdad School Supplies Plant, rehabilitation work is underway to restore the notebook production line, with plans to add a new production line and supporting facilities.
Abdul-Razzaq stressed that these initiatives will boost local production, reduce import dependence, and supply essential materials to Iraq’s domestic market, marking a step forward in the country’s drive to revitalize its industrial sector.
