A “Slight” Decline In Dollar Exchange Rates In Local Markets With The Stock Market Closing

Market   Economy News – Baghdad   On Saturday, the exchange rates of the US dollar witnessed a decline in Baghdad and Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, with the closure of the stock exchange.

The dollar exchange rates decreased with the closure of the Al-Kifah and Al-Harithiya stock exchanges, recording 157,500 dinars per 100 dollars, while it recorded this morning 157,700 dinars per 100 dollars.

Regarding the selling prices in the exchange shops in the local markets in Baghdad, they decreased, as the selling price reached 158,500 dinars, while the purchasing price reached 156,500 dinars for every 100 dollars. In Erbil, the dollar also recorded a decline, as the selling price reached 157,300 dinars per 100 dollars, and the purchase price reached 157,150 dinars per 100.

The Central Bank Denies The Disappearance Of Large Amounts Of Local Currency

Economy |  09/12/2023   Baghdad – Mawazine News   Today, Saturday, the Central Bank denied that large amounts of local currency had disappeared.

The bank stated in a statement received by Mawazine News that “the alleged accusations of the disappearance of large amounts of Iraqi currency and their smuggling to some neighboring countries are not true,” noting that “the quantities of Iraqi currency are printed according to the needs of the Iraqi economy and within strict standards.”

He pointed out that “the issuance of Emaar bonds (the first issue), which were completely sold, was according to the needs of the Ministry of Finance and what was stipulated in the General Budget Law.”

He stressed that it is “the only institution in Iraq that undergoes audits of its accounts and operations from four parties: the Bureau of Financial Supervision, an international auditing company, a committee of external auditors, and the Internal Audit Department.”

The bank pointed out that “making accusations without providing any evidence to confirm them calls into question the intentions and their goal of harming the state’s economic interests, stressing its legal right to prosecute anyone who promotes such accusations.”

 Integrity And The US State Department Discuss Extending Cooperation Between The Two Countries In The Field Of Combating Corruption

Political | 12:22 – 09/12/2023  Mawazine News – Baghdad  The Federal Integrity Commission and the US State Department discussed today, Saturday, extending cooperation between the two countries in the field of combating corruption, while the US State Department praised the Iraqi government’s achievements in combating corruption.

The Commission stated in a statement, a copy of which was received by Mawazine News, that “The Chairman of the Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, and Victoria Taylor, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran, discussed extending cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of combating corruption and recovering its revenues.”

Judge Hanoun stressed, during the meeting that took place at the headquarters of the US State Department, “Iraq’s need to help countries of the world in extraditing convicts and recovering smuggled proceeds,” indicating that “concluding bilateral memorandums of cooperation is sufficient to remove obstacles that may obstruct the process of extraditing defendants and recovering smuggled funds.”

He noted that “the Republic of Iraq has achieved remarkable successes in the field of combating corruption, whether in the deterrent investigative aspect and increasing the pace of seizure operations or in the preventive field, one of the fruits of which was the campaign (Where did you get this), which did not exclude even senior officials.”

The Chairman of the Commission renewed “the Republic of Iraq’s commitment to the United Nations Convention against Corruption and full compliance with its decisions, whether at the level of legislation supporting regulatory bodies or the issuance of strict judicial rulings against the corrupt,” noting that “diplomatic efforts are underway in full swing in order to bring viewpoints closer together and conclude agreements.” Cooperation and understanding with countries, especially the United States of America, so our presence today is to bring space together and shorten time.”

The US Ambassador said in a tweet followed by Mawazine News, “I strongly support the words of the US Secretary of Defense, and I urge Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to take the necessary measures to protect the personnel and installations of the United States and coalition forces.”

US Secretary Of Defense To Sudanese: We Reserve The Right To Respond

Political |  09/12/2023   Baghdad – Mawazine News  US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that there are two factions responsible for most attacks against members of the international coalition and that the United States reserves the right to respond decisively against those groups.

The US Department of Defense stated in a statement, “A phone call took place between Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, where they discussed the Iraqi government’s commitment to protecting diplomatic personnel, coalition advisors, and its facilities.”

Minister Austin condemned the recent attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad, as well as the series of attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria in recent weeks.

The US Secretary of Defense welcomed the statement of the Iraqi Prime Minister, who condemned the attack and described it as “terrorist acts that endanger Iraq’s internal security,” stressing that the United States “reserves the right to act in self-defense against those who launch any attack against American personnel.”

He stressed that “the Iranian-backed armed groups, Kataib Hezbollah and Harakat al-Nujaba, both of which are terrorist organizations, are responsible for most attacks against coalition personnel, and that the United States reserves the right to respond decisively against those groups to address threats and attacks against US personnel and coalition forces.”

The US Secretary of Defense stressed that “the attacks launched by Iranian-backed factions undermine Iraq’s sovereignty and stability, threaten the safety of Iraqi civilians, and impede the campaign to defeat ISIS.”

Minister Austin explained that “attacks against American forces must stop.”

The phone call witnessed a discussion of the formation of the US-Iraqi Supreme Military Committee, which the two governments agreed upon during the joint security cooperation dialogue between the United States and Iraq in August 2023, which is a consultative mechanism for the transition of the coalition.
