CBI Clarifies No Distinction Between US Dollar Notes

The Central Bank of Iraq has made something very clear: there is no difference between old and new U.S. dollar bills.

In new guidance sent to banks and financial institutions, the Central Bank said no one should treat older dollar notes differently from newer ones when exchanging money.

That means no different exchange rates. No extra conditions. No confusion.

The Bank stressed that current laws and regulations do not recognize any difference between U.S. dollar print versions — as long as the notes meet accepted local and international standards.

In short, a dollar is a dollar.

The Central Bank also confirmed it will continue accepting and processing all versions of U.S. dollar banknotes through licensed banks, as long as they meet proper standards.

This move is part of a bigger goal: keeping the banking system transparent, protecting customers, and maintaining financial stability in Iraq.
