CBI: GDP per capita declines in Iraq in 2023

According to information provided by the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), GDP per capita decreased in 2023.

According to a report from the CBI, the GDP per capita in 2023 decreased by 22.4% to 7.6 million Iraqi dinars, or approximately $5,500, from 9.8 million dinars, or $7,400, in 2022.

The bank said that “drop in GDP at current prices to 330 trillion dinars for 2023 compared to 415 trillion dinars for 2022” was to blame for the decline.

Iraq ranked seventh among Arab countries in terms of per capita income in the 2024 index, with an annual income of $5,880, or over 7 million dinars at the official exchange rate, according to an IMF study.

After a significant increase of 7.9% in 2022, Iraq’s GDP per capita growth rate was 2.8% in 2023.

The market and consumer data-focused German website Statista anticipated a rise in per capita income to $6,824 by 2029.
