Chinese Firm to build TotalEnergies 1GW Solar Plant

At the Ratawi [Artawi] field in Basra, China Energy Engineering Corporation (Energy China, CEEC) and France’s TotalEnergies have signed an EPC contract for a 1-GW solar power project.

Energy China stated in a statement:

“This project serves as a significant milestone in CEEC’s commitment to international capacity cooperation and its collaboration with multinational companies to tap into overseas renewable energy markets and drive global energy transformation. It is the first large-scale project in the Iraqi government’s PV construction plan.”

“The project is located approximately 70 kilometers from the city of Basra in the Basra Province of southern Iraq. The design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the PV power plant site and a 132 kV booster station with a 1 GW AC side capacity are all included in the EPC service.

“When completed, it is anticipated to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 2.385 million tons and generate 2.9 billion kilowatt-hours annually.

“The project will help Iraq meet its growing demand for electricity, make it easier to optimize its power structure, and speed up its economic reconstruction.

“China Energy International Group Co., Ltd., Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., and CPECC Southwest Electric Power Design Institute, Co., Ltd. will jointly promote and implement the project.” “It is anticipated that it will officially begin construction by the end of this year and be completed in the early 2027.” The venture will stick to a serious level of restriction, setting out adequate business open doors and invigorating local financial turn of events.
