Danish Foreign Ministry: Trump's demands regarding Greenland cannot be met

Denmark Rejects Trump’s Greenland Ambitions Despite Diplomatic Overtures

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitions regarding Greenland are unattainable, even after Washington ruled out the use of force.

Rasmussen said Trump’s remarks about not resorting to military means were a positive signal, but stressed that they do not change the reality that Denmark cannot accept American ambitions over Greenland, according to Western media reports.

He reaffirmed Denmark’s firm position on the issue, emphasizing that Greenland’s future cannot be decided through political pressure or external ambitions, and remains a matter of sovereignty and self-determination.

The comments came after President Trump announced on Wednesday that he wished to arrange meetings as soon as possible as part of what he described as efforts aimed at acquiring Greenland.

Denmark has consistently rejected any suggestion of transferring control of the island, underscoring that Greenland is not for sale and that decisions regarding its future rest with its people.
